Shabby chic or romantic boho, a true bohemian lived here

Oscar-nominated costume designer Theadora Van Runkle died in 2011, but these photos of her shabby-chic/romantic-boho Laurel Canyon, Calif., home could have been lifted from the pages of House BeautifulArchitectural Digest or Elle Décor just yesterday.

I found them on a Finnish blog I follow, Yellow House on the Beach (Keltainen Talo Rannalla). Thankfully, blogger Tarja Kankaanpää-Salonen included her source, otherwise I would have missed a delightful reminiscence of Van Runkle by blogger Diane Dorrens Saeks of The Style Saloniste, who knew Van Runkle personally. Saeks found the photos shot by Amy Neunsinger on a realtor’s website when the house was last for sale in late 2015.

If you'd like some choice music to serenade your browing, I've also included the Crosby Stills Nash recording here. "Our House" was written by Graham Nash about another Laurel Canyon property he shared with singer Joni Mitchell in the late 60s. Those of you who came of age during that time will recognize the tune, and, as you'll see, the lyrics could just have easily been about THIS house.

Start your journey here, of course, on BoHoHome. What I've included should make you cry to know more about the 1930s cottage’s owner, who worked on the movies Bonnie and ClydeGodfather IIPeggy Sue Got Married, and many more.

At the end of my post you'll find a list of links about Van Runkle. If you only have time to follow one, make it Saeks’ wonderful, warm and thoughtful offering about a dear friend.
