Call this the 'Wish We All Could Be Cali-Boho Girls' tour

www.BoHoHome.com @bohosusan

If I wasn’t a California girl in a past life, I know I’m meant to live that boho dream in the next one. For now, I’m biding my time drooling over this bright, fun, boho home in the South Bay area.

Did I mention that it also blends midcentury modern with all that bohemian lushness—my very favorite combo? What more could a Cali-girl-wannabe ask for? In the next life, that is, if not before? See if you don’t agree.

Light, bright formal living spaces

I only say formal because the house also has a family room.

I love all the midcentury modern furniture with exposed wood frames, don’t you? It must be that it reminds me of my childhood. There was a time when I didn’t like this style for that same reason. But I’m older now, more nostalgic, and certainly wiser. ;->

I love how the pricier upholstered pieces are neutral, but so much color is brought in through accessories. The patterned vintage kilim rug on top of the sisal one on top of those gorgeous blonde hardwoods is so today, and that vase of sunflowers adds the perfect touch of sunshine.

And dig those groovy blown-glass grapes—do those ever bring back memories! The owner scored this bunch at a Salvation Army store.

Trailing pothos brings back memories, too. In college we took bets on who could get theirs to grow the longest.

Check out the dandelion boom on top of the coffee-table book stack. I wrote a whole ON FLEEK feature on those booms once.

Get this: The rug in the dining room was FREE on Craigslist. I like FREE, don’t you? I need to scour Craigslist more thoroughly!

The owner shops a lot of flea markets and thrift stores. She says her biggest indulgence was this set of Moller chairs, which she snapped up even before she had a table to gather them ‘round.

I’m loving the kantha treatment on the ubiquitous sliding glass door. Use those little snap rings to hang and you don’t damage the quilt one bit. Gaze through the colorful panels and you get a glimpse of the enticing patio I'm saving for later.

Coolly casual family gathering spots

The previous owners remodeled the kitchen to be beautifully open to the gorgeous living-room space, but the current owners lightened up the space by painting the cabinets white.

Don’t you love all the built-in cubbies for display throughout? Even I might have a hard time filling them all, but oh-what-a-wonderful “problem” to have.

The Indian door-hanging repurposed as a window treatment was found on ebay.

The vintage stove is original to the house. Wow! I sure wouldn’t mind slaving over it with such a terrific view to such a gorgeous living room.

A small family room provides some extra space to crash (and keeps the TV out of that pretty living room, I’m guessing).

That’s a powder room through the doorway, but it could just as easily pass for a foyer the way the owner has the wall dressed.

The smalledst of the 1,850-square-foot home’s bedrooms functions as a cheery home office.

And, of course, there are more built-ins for displays of the owner’s keepsakes and finds.

Boho holds sway over the bedrooms, too

Down the hallway, you get a glimpse of the master bedroom.

I love the mix of pattern in the window treatment, kantha bedcover, and rug.

The wicker shelf in the corner is another Salvation Army find.

Daughter Audrey’s room is a boho wonderland. My eye is on that geometric Turkish rug AND the wall-hanging over the crib.

Who wouldn’t love growing up here? Right here. Hear me, Sisters of Fate? Get to weaving that thread, girls.

And how about that cutie-patootie lion rug from Jonathan Adler? Roooaaaaaaaar! Me want one of those, too!

With a guest room like this, how do they ever get people to leave? I know I wouldn't.

A neighbor of ours when I was 10 had a hanging chair like that. I loved to go over there and just swing in it. It's a wonder I didn't break it.

Multiple magical outdoor-living spaces

This is the long view of the back yard from Audrey’s play area. Keep your eyes on our destination so you don't miss a single thing.

And what an approach! This is the area you stole a peek of from the dining room. I love the paving and ALL the landscaping actually.

And this seating area is to die-for. It’s exactly how I want MINE to look this summer, sans rugs. Actually, I’d enjoy the rugs but don’t have a covered patio to protect them. Maybe I could paint patterns like this on the concrete? Maybe if I get new knees first, that is.

Maybe if someone volunteers to scoop me off the pavement when I'm done. In the meantime, In lieu of that, I'll have to satisfy myself with kantha-draped chairs and vintage pillows.

Just taking all this in is the inspiration I need to keep me decorating my very own outdoor paradise.

This is the outdoor dining area you glimpsed through the window over the kitchen sink. But the streambed was a surprise, wasn’t it?

www.BoHoHome.com @bohosusan
Rebecca U. / Apartment Therapy

The owner says it was the outdoor living spaces that attracted them to the property and that it’s like living in an oasis. I get her drift; so soothing!

The stream bed even continues into the front yard. Now you see why I'm hopelessly smitten. California, here I come!!
